Radio Control Insurance

With the growing popularity of radio controlled model airplanes over the past few years, the skies have been filling up with planes of all shapes, speeds and sizes rather more quickly than most hobbyists may have predicted. Combined with the increase in numbers, model airplanes have become faster, heavier and more sophisticated, making the potential for unforeseen accidents even greater than ever before. And while the vast majority of model plane enthusiasts have been practicing adequate safety measures since the hobby began, new regulations, including mandatory radio control insurance, have been implemented to govern the safety of the sport for all to enjoy.

As such, radio control insurance for all model airplane enthusiasts has now become mandatory at outdoor clubs throughout North America to protect spectators and controllers from damage, financial or otherwise, incurred as the result of an accident. And while radio controlled model airplanes can hardly be labeled a health hazard, safety has nonetheless become a major concern amongst model airplane associations and enthusiasts alike.

With that in mind, most club membership fees now include a radio control insurance policy covered by either the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) in the United States or its Canadian equivalent, the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada.

Take note however that the simple fact of having insurance coverage may not always absolve you of all liability in the event of an accident. In fact, there is an extensive list of safety rules and guidelines that must be followed in order to qualify for your radio control insurance. Failure to abide by these regulations may exempt you from your insurance coverage. For a complete list of the safety code that members are expected to abide by, visit the AMA website(http://www.modelaircraft.org/templates/ama/PDF-files/105.pdf).
